Website full of goodies

Hi everyone, I have done lots of hard work this week and my website is nice and full again, and with a few new changes on the theme. There are still more things to be added though.
I have added lots of necklaces and bracelets. Earrings will be soon and over the next few days I’ll be organising a Sale or vouches to use.
Please share with your friends and think about birthdays, Christmas even, Mothers Day… Or even just a gift to say I love you.

I am also deleting my old Facebook page and starting a new one, (It will be basically the same name). I find the large number of likers quite ridiculous and misleading. I will elaborate on that further. I know, it sounds weird to get rid of something with so many ‘fans’ but I have my reasons.

Have a great week,

Photographs and website upload

After a weird and busy week I am now at the point where I will be getting everything, and I mean everything, uploaded onto the website.
I have just spent an hour or so going through all the jewellery and sorting it onto the table, then matching it with pictures and putting it away. What is left on the table needs to be photographed. Simple. But there is an awful lot. This would be because I haven’t taken pictures of earrings or bracelets when I usually take them to market only.

And then there is more confusion as I have so many folders of pictures. Once the website is done, a few new things made and the market over and done with, I will be going through all my albums and properly sorting them out. Deleting and moving as required.
This computer work is a pain but a necessary evil I must put up with.

I will also – in addition to the website – putting all my items up here (as a post) with the Price list page reflecting each item. This way if there is anything you would like, you can easily see if it has been sold and if not, click straight through to the website for purchase. A I make one of each item, I cannot make an exact match, but if you would like something similar I will endeavour to do so. Ay items that have multiples will be mentioned (eg: 2 and when sold, 1/2 Sold, then Sold Out).

I’ll leave you with a gratuitous picture because I can and I like adding pictures to my posts.
Have a great day. 🙂

thinking, working, making time

I’m in a bit of a muddle at the moment with four blogs, two fb pages and my markets and website to upkeep. And that’s without even thinking about the family side of things. While being able to multi task and be busy with many things, I do tend to be a bit of a one track mind and some things get left by the wayside til it’s desperate to fix them. That’s where I am now, oops.

I will be taking some time off to get everything sorted. All my picture files and what I do and don’t have have on hand, getting the website loaded so I can hide and show items on a rotating basis to allow for markets and keeping all sites fresh.
Fixing up the pages here with pictures of my market evolution, a price list page. I will be getting back into the UFO box as well as a basket of necklaces that are ready to be undone and re made into new items. Sure they’re still nice, but they are old and haven’t sold, so the beads get a new lease on life.

I will be posting things here on and off so please don’t stray too far.
Thanks for your consideration, 🙂

Words words words….

I am normally not too bad with words, and am not really an eloquent writer, but I hate it when I really want to find a word, and it just won’t show it self.  It sits out there taunting me. Either that, or it’s on the end of my tongue which is why I can’t find it…..

From yesterday’s, or was it the day before’s post. I can’t remember. The last post I wrote I mentioned all the things I wanted to do. An hour or so this afternoon was spent with the laptop, going through all my blogs and fixing things up. I feel happy now that the ‘pages’ are all up to date, re worded as necessary, or written from scratch. My next job will be to sort out my website. This will be time-consuming, but my plan is to work off the website when fixing the Facebook page and using it as a guide to what I upload and what jewellery items get tossed, changed or put on sale.  (Part of FB is now sorted, sorted most and deleted some of my albums, that was the easy part).

This brings me to the title of today’s post.  I generally make one of each item. I buy beads to be used for one thing, or use up leftovers which means there is no easy way of replicating items.  Sure, mass-produced or multiples of items are good, especially if something is popular, but I would prefer to cater to those that don’t want to wear what everyone else is, who are happy to have something that is a little different. Herein lies my problem. The wording of these such items.
OOAK – one of a kind. It bores me. Everyone is now doing OOAK, and wording it as such – the abbreviation – it’s almost become passé, so yesterday, definitely NOT different. How can it be different if everyone is doing OOAK??

I would like to have on my website and Facebook page (even here) something that catches your eye, or makes you think ‘I’ve got to have a look at that’ when you hear/read it.  Sure, I’m still doing items that are the only one of their kind, but I want a new word for it.
Exotic, maybe. I looked up the thesaurus (different, odd, unusual) and wrote down some words that appealed. Those words are:
Limited edition
Bizarre – (
as in bizarre beads, just a thought)
Distinct or distinctive

My current catch-phrase is “a new way to express yourself” and while I still love this, I would like something to add to it.
Say…. “A new way to express yourself (with) off-beat jewellery and bags”  As I read this, off-beat is not the right word, and now crossed off the list. Even unique is getting to me like OOAK is.. gone from the list.

I know this is the second thing I have asked of you my lovely readers and followers, in as many days, but sometimes when you’re stuck, fresh eyes can see things you’ve overlooked, or think of words that fit the bill.

What would catch your eye, what words or phrases would make you take a second look?

With much thanks in advance,
Jennifer 🙂

New stall display

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here so I apologise. I’ve been busy, not just with my craft, but with family and not having time to sit and concentrate on doing this. I’m on a roll, after being distracted earlier, this is now the third blog to post on. That fruit smoothie pick me up must have done the trick.

Whats been going on? I’ve made more asymmetrical and ribbon back style necklaces, I had a brilliant day at the Middleton Fair, found a shop locally that sells the glass I use for fusing (and at a reasonable price), cracking the veneer on the Market manager and making progress, he is letting me in on things more now (he complimented me on the Facebook page I made, which in itself is progress) and I’m looking at altering my market display. Stepping thing up a notch, so to speak.
Then there is the family stuff, one birthday, hubby home for 3 weeks instead of just 5 days, kids starting school after summer holidays…. The list goes on.

Back to business. This week, I have 3 days before hubby returns (for 3 days) so I have to get a wriggle on. My job list consists of: getting website back up and running (having a set amount of items on there at any one time), fixing up details and pages on my 3 blogs, sorting out and cleaning up my FB page then maybe if I get the time and am still awake going through the box of UFOs …

Next week, after hubster returns on his normal shift, I will be looking at other props and how I can add height without adding extra baggage. This is very important. I need no more than 3 prop/jewellery boxes for market. Somehow using boxes to carry product and which can then be used as steps to utilise the space better.

I love my mini easels but they take up so much room, and with rarely having access to more than one table, they take up valuable space. If I could lean the boards against something, then space above and/or below is not wasted.
Here are a few pictures to illustrate the sort of thing I am thing of. You know what, no pictures coz I couldn’t find anything that really had the appeal or even what I was thinking. I did find another jewellery blog which cool.

My other problem is my whole look and niche. I love the clean lines of the basic white, I love my new twine triplets (as does everyone else, they get so many compliments!), I love the vintage look of suitcases and hat boxes, or the whole natural look of wooden crates and shelves but I am not sure where my style fits. I am using black and clear bought props which are ‘professional’ but some of them (busts and bracelet stands) are getting old and are wobbly. I want to update them, but still have a clean and professional looking stall – that appeals and is welcoming – that is easy to set up and transport.

These are a couple of things I picked up today that need a clean: the board is perfect for hanging necklaces, (after a tweak or two) and the little boxes will be good for bracelets or smaller necklaces that come with earrings. (And two wooden necklaces that I can pull apart and use for other things.

Here is my stall in two of the current layouts. A you can see, slightly different but still using the same items. And the easels, good but excessive for one table.

Please help me, what do you think my stall needs, or what style would you say my pieces are? What direction should I be looking in??

The year in review

What has happened this year?
In a nutshell…
– I attended the Middleton Fair for the first time ever, since visiting it years ago with small children in tow. I’m hoping the next one will be better. I have four weeks to get my act together on that front.

– I’ve been in the local newspaper as part of one of the markets I attend, albeit wrongly named.

– I bought my own domain name and started a new website – a lot of work is currently needed to tidy and fix it up.

– I bought an ad in a local newsletter – has it been successful? I’m not sure. No one has actually said they’ve seen my ad and come looking.

– I’ve done lots of markets this year. Some very good, most of it not so. Take the good with the bad, it’s all about marketing and getting your face out there.

– started this blog as a stand alone beady and craft blog after a completely un-related blog post from a friend.

– I attended an art exhibition with my very first attempt at collage and mixed media.

– I then dabbled in some painting and mixed media canvases. I sold a few early on but not much since.

– I made a few bags early on and then stopped. Not made much since. I’m going to make a few more new ones for the upcoming fair and markets in between.

– I’ve put it upon myself to help the manager of the Woodbridge Market to try and make sure it gets better. While it was hit and miss early on, I think he’s come round a little, and knows I don’t want to take over, just help. Last market he asked me if I had my camera at the ready and said well done on the FB page. Wahoo!

Next years goals?
Work on my website and get it uber organised.
Get my work area to a workable standard and try to be neater overall.
Get to work and make sure everything in my collection is worthy. There are a few at the moment that will be pulled apart. Those things that don’t get many looks or that I’m really not impressed with anymore.
Work on a few new items with clay, glass and semi precious stones, and nice chains or ribbons. Make a collection or two that is on going that become like signature pieces.
Look at a different marketing avenue maybe, or try a few more shops to get a small retail base happening.

I did start either this year or last. A goal of making less items and not rushing them out. Sometimes it worked. Other times I put too much pressure on myself and then that stuffed it all about.

Overall I’ve had a fun year beading, crafting and sewing and look forward to moving forward – onwards and upwards – in the new year.

I hope to see my followers back to share my journey.
Happy New Year!!
Jennifer 🙂

it’s all mine!! Mine I tell you!

what am I talking about this time…?

I own my domain name.
And it’s registered to me.  (link currently goes nowhere)

I will now see if my non tech savvy brain can figure out how to attach  it to the new website.

Just thought I’d tell you.

Have a good day, or evening 🙂

New website launching!

Hi my friends, I have done the hard yards on my new website and below is the link for you to have a browse.
For those that don’t know, I am looking at another web-building site that gives me everything I want, shopping cart included for a better price than my current one.

So I wasn’t wasting time for nothing, I have uploaded only 3 items per category, which I feel is enough to get people started on what will be.  I’m sure there are more categories to be included later, but time will work on that.

It is quite completely different for the one I have now, so if you’ve seen that one, be prepared, this is not the same, except for the colour scheme. Pink, of course.

The header is rather plain at the moment with just my logo, I will be working on that. I won’t say anything else on what it’s like except to say that all feedback – positive or negative, negative especially – is welcomed. How can one improve if they aren’t told what needs changing?

Of course if you want to buy something, then don’t let me stop you.
I, of course, will be testing it out myself, but after working on it, I need to have some unbiased feedback.

I know there are some things that need a little work and tweaking, like the fb button. Driving me nuts trying to get the link to work. The Twitter one works fine.

Is it the sort of website you would be happy to return to?
Do you find it user-friendly, easy to access everything?
Is the shopping cart easy to use & understandable? (if you want to test it out, go through the motions of buying something and then cancel at last-minute, I do it all the time on other sites I visit).
Are the pictures clear, and easy to see details?
(I hate the blurb part) does the description entice you to buy, does it give you all the info you need?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Well, after nearly two weeks of work (interrupted of course by other seemingly important this like family and Art Trails) I have finally finished my website.
It has had a total overall: new pages, new products and a new look.
The only thing I haven’t put on it is a shopping cart. I realise that may be shooting myself in the foot, but until I find the funds to get a proper site done up or find a better way to incorporate shipping into it, it will have to wait.
For any sales and enquiries a simple email is all it takes and I can arrange the best price for you (and invoice via PayPal).

Pease wander across and have a look, I’d really appreciate any feedback you can give me (aside from any typos I’m sure I’ve missed) as it can only help in the long run and don’t forget to share with your friends, I post world wide so it doesn’t matter where you are.
(Christmas is coming fast, as usual it seems, so of you want to be super organized, there are lots of presses waiting ..)

Thanks and I hope you like it. 🙂
