Year of the bead!

Well, that’s what I said back in January. And things were hopping along quite nicely. Until life kinda jumped in and without being very polite nudged the beads off to the side for a bit.
And in my creative mess I wasn’t in the mood to drag it back…until now. I’m making a new start and keeping things simple. I almost feel like I’m selling myself out with this, by deciding on selling multiples, and going mainstream with my stock. I, like many other beaders want to sell one of a kind (OOAK) items and not have many of the same thing. Well, sometimes it just doesn’t work like that. I’ve known this for a while and, yes, have been in denial about it. By doing the few things I will be I can still keep my creative difference even with making stacks of multiples.
It may be June and half way through the year already but The year of the Bead is back on track!
There’s something I want to test out, which are easy to make and can be whipped up in no time at all. Even at markets if I so desire. A simple, stylish something that pretty well all women would like to wear (I hope).
Cheers beady friends, Jen

New thoughts, and a massive SALE!!!

I’m a creative person. In lots of ways. I write. I take photos. I make things. I enjoy cooking and experimenting. And I have a short attention span. At times. For certain things. Well, most of the time actually, and especially for my beads. What sells, what doesn’t sell and what I’m wanting to make. It’s a hard thing. Finding that niche, that thing that will set you apart. Finding the style that will keep me interested for more than five minutes.
I love making necklaces and bracelets and things. All the beads, the time to design and make them. The frustration when they don’t go to plan and the joy when it all comes together.  Sometimes completely differently to what I envisioned. My work space has been a shambles for a while. It quite often is. I try really hard to keep it tidy, but the creative within me decides otherwise. And so a mess it stays.
The other day I had an epiphany. I would concentrate on the accessories side of my business. The small things. Scarf bails, brooches, pendants, rings and earrings.
So with that in mind I can finally start on tidying my room with a plan in mind. Moving cupboards, sorting beads and tossing them out (eek! yes I did it).
Sure it’s coming up to winter and these items will sell better, but I find they are also are becoming my bread and butter items. The regular sellers.
I’m in the process of updating the website and am having a huge sale. To help shift my old stock and make room for new items coming through it’s a massive 40% off sale. Yep, I know that’s huge. I want to move things, so I can get onto my new ideas. At the moment it is 40%off the total but I will be changing the prices to reflect the items that are on sale as there will be my new regular stock also for sale.

So come on over to the website – click on the link to the top right – and go shopping. Remember I will be adding and moving items around regularly so be quick if you see something you like.

Cheers, Jen

Taking a beading break

It’s been way way too long since I’ve been here, or anywhere much in the blogosphere. Dottering about, making, selling, writing, reading.. to say life has gotten in the way is an understatement. I’ve barely touched my craft room (it’s a freaking mess), and keeping my motivation at any kind of productive, working level has been hard.
I have to do some serious work on my website which will be happening this week. I have to make time purely for that otherwise it will never get done and I may as well not even have it. Paying for something that is not working.

I have some new items to put up on the site, and want to have a few limited collections to sell off.  All in good time.  As I tell my husband, I have a list a mile long of things I want to do, and that’s without adding in anything to do with kids, house or him.
So many things to do, so little time to do it.

New theme

Ok,here it is.  After spending way too long on it last night, and stuffing up my widgets I am reasonably happy with this one. Minimilistic and tidy.
Please check out the website and tell me if you think they’re comparable or I should go back to something else, brighter maybe.
Website for perusal.

Cheers, Jen 🙂

Art Trail 2014

The website for Crag and this years Art trail is up and running. There are plenty of things to fix, add, and improve, but the basics are organised.
If you follow the link it takes you straight to the Exhibition page.
I have noticed a few issues using my iPad but on mum’s laptop it was fine.
There is an old picture of mum there, and in the open studios section I will also be with mum.
More information as and when I get it.

Finger and Ear candy rock!

So, it’s been pretty busy around here, and while I haven’t been in here, I haven’t forgotten either. It’s been in the back of my head to get back, upload things to the website, and generally do little bits as often as I can.

Today’s job was…. actually I’m not sure what I had planned for today (that was bad planning wasn’t it?). Despite my distinct lack of planning I have done a couple of things.

The website now boasts a group of my felted ‘ball & chain’ necklaces under the Limited Edition banner. I wont be making any more of these, and once they’re gone, that’s it. All over. At $18 each they’re pretty good value and easy. There are only 9 available.

Another item I have uploaded are the Friendly Plastic pieces. At $15 each for either a ring or pair of stud earrings, these are great value and make buying multiples for last minute presents a breeze.
They are both available in all the colours which I have posted pictures of in the ‘Collections’ section. There is no way to add a drop down box for colour selection so I’m relying on people to write it down and add it to their cart details.

As I said before, theses are both items I am happy to mass produce, as they are not a definite individual item like most of my jewellery.

The next item to put up, not sure yet. I have a short story to write later tonight, a half day at both home and work tomorrow, so maybe I’ll look through the photos and check what I have ready to go, I’m thinking more everyday necklaces as compared to asymmetrical.
And lastly, I need to get my vague routine under way to allow for all the usual house/family obligations and making new items. This point wil take the longest. I tend to get very distracted when hubby is home, but if I don’t work while he is here, then I lose track and don’t work when he is not (which is when I should be the most productive).

Til next time, tomorrow maybe, be sure to check out the website, give me feedback please and don’t forget to share around.

Marcato Designs or check out the funky link on the right hand side. I am so happy to have been able to make a cool link like that.

New directions, new ideas and a link for shopping.

I know I’ve said this before, and I do, do something, then my motivtion decides to bugger off and drops me in the slow box for a while. I even went looking for the post but I can’t find it short of looking through every single one. Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
And this resurgence in motivation and get up has been brought about by recent sales from my website and a post on Facebook that ‘pages’ are likely to be written off almost. Well, Facebook are saying that for your ‘page’ to be seen in the future you will need to pay for it, or pay for ads or something. And friends have already noticed a distinct drop in visitors and views – and these are the ones with over a 1000 likers, not just little people like me.
So my thoughts are now even more focused on what I have to do. I like Facebook because it’s free. I don’t want to be paying for it when I am paying for a website as well.
So I’m working on a couple of ideas to kick start the website and have worked out how much I need to sell to pay for it. While this is not a lot, there are other things I need to pay for as well, so it all adds up, and paying for Facebook is not a priority.
One needs to work out what is going to be best for them and utilise that.
So right now, I am updating and sorting the website. Next week (I am working 2 days and then am busy til the end of Monday) I will be getting photos to upload so people can order earrings/rings/hair slides in their colour choice. These are the easiest to do on a grand scale without me feeling like I’m selling out, or going against what I believe. All other items will be reduced for (hopefully) quick sales and I can concentrate on what I do really like. Retro/vintage /boho styles and my glass work (pendants & Wraptures).

I also need to empty and restart my studio from scratch. There is so much going on, I need to find some sort of better storage solution for everything.

More importantly, I need to get into a better routine. Routine is important. While crafty people tend to want to work whenever, it is still important to have some structure so things actually get done.
This has to work in with my Community Centre, market, family, work life. For those that know me, they know that my life is anything but staid and there are times when life will not play nicely. It’s all easier on paper at least) if you work full/part time. There are set times to work around.
I am also aware of the time I spend with or without my kids. They grow up quick enough I want to make sure they have everything they need before they get licences/jobs/girlfriends and leave the nest more often and for longer each time.

Where am I going with this. Short answer. There may be some kind of spamming of products, links, pictures, blabbing to get my name out there more and trying to drive more people along.
I’m thinking, as I type this to get some sort of (big) link on the sidebar that is a direct link to my website. Actually, that will be the next job.
~five minute time lapse ~ Woohoo, done, super easy and takes you to the home page. I can change that to whatever page I like, which I may do another day, the Collections page, or the Shop Front maybe… Now to go and pout it on the main blog.

Have a good weekend (I know it’s only Wednesday but I wont be back here til after Monday).

New themes..

Simply put.
This blog got its new theme last week.
My work space is getting a new theme of Clean this week.

I’ve tidied up, but just like when you move house, I’m at the part where all the fiddly annoying things are. I need to just bite the bullet and get on with it. I’ve taken photos of some old but new pieces, and I desperately have to do something about my website.
I’m still tossing up how I work it.
Is it a gallery? Is it a shop?

The website is clean and as minimalist if as possible. Just needs a revamp.
Time to get moving, catch you all on the other side.
Jen 🙂

Busy Beading Fun

As per my post the other day about being on my own and getting creative. I had a ball. Or a bead. I got productive.
I needed to make some new items to take to market and add to the website. I will also be taking some to a little shop that expressed interest some back and see what they say.

Some of these pieces are completely new, others are old necklaces just re worked into my new style, which I really like.  Take the green and blue Chrysocolla one (with the diamond-shaped focal bead), it’s so much nicer than the simplistic two strand with centre focal bead.

I have had a good response from these funky imitation howlite skulls so I will work on getting some more and making a collection of them. Simple strung necklace and earrings, with an assorted mixture of colours, and earrings to match.
My website will be updated with the new items today, and my new weekly special is up and running on Facebook.

That heart. This is a hard one for me. I’m not sure I like it. I think the heart is just too much, too big and clunky.  Please, tell me your honest thoughts. Keep or toss! IMG_6869

Weekly Specials!

As part of my new Facebook page I am going to have a weekly special. Each Monday – I will try really hard to make sure it happens on a Monday – I will post up the special for that week.

There are different ways it will play out depending on my mood, the season (mothers day, christmas, valentines etc) and what I have in stock. It may be an older item I will reduce, a new item I want to showcase at a special price pre website, a multi buy item (earrings generally fall into this one, 3 for $15 kind of thing) or maybe a discount code for use on the website but only available for those who like my Facebook page.

As a friend put it, this will keep people interested, keep my page interesting and up to date while showcasing my product.
The item or special for each week will be highlighted as my cover photo and there will be an album dedicated to the “Weekly Special”.

I will post here and on Twitter on the Monday also that the special has been uploaded, and I would appreciate all shares of all my social media (FB, Twitter and this blog).

I love what I do and love to share that joy of wearing something pretty and unusual, and that is yours alone with other people.
Because jewellery is a very personal subject, and everyone has their own tastes, I can make up gift cards starting from AU$25. Pease email me if you would like one.

Head over to my Facebook page – the new link is up and running – and check out my first weekly special. If the ‘special’ sells out (or single item sells) within 2 days I may look at doing a second special, but that will be my prerogative.

I hope your Easter was safe and fun filled 🙂
