Rainy day makes and frustrations

My box of ufo’s isn’t getting any smaller, in fact, it’s almost multpliying. I’ve bought or been given some very cool funky beads and buttons that I want to make with these rather than starting on the other. Maybe sometime this week I will just sort the boxes, pull apart nad re distribute the beds and findings. I still have to sort and pack away the box of bits I received months ago. But seeing as I am just pottering through them, and using the contents, I don’t have a problem with it.

It was a nasty rainy day – perfect for being productive – and I got started this morning on buttons. And twine. Yeah, not so good. The twine kept fraying too much, I have to dip it in glue to stiffen it before I start again. I give that up to have a go at something else.

I bought two of these on purpose. I usually only make one of each item, but these were so cool, making two would not be so hard. I added, divided, cut and re-strung the wooden beads and then added the ribbon and chain. And what did I do. By the time I finished one I was bored, and frustrated. So, something simple but different was made.

These two are different, but very pretty. Silver flowers overlaid on the wooden

and I wanted some colour injected. Testing out the different ribbons to find a good match it was then hunt out the pretties and see what semi precious or other cool beads would work. I was thinking deep red, hot pink or bright blues. Or orange. I hate orange. But lots of people like orange.
After fiddling about I decided on a classic combination of coral and turquoise. Now to just find the fit pieces for charms…
The colours look much brighter in the flesh, the lighting is not very clear, even though I was directly under the light. I want to find something completely different for the other one. Wood, resin, clay, glass….?

Have a great weekend, I’ll be back with news of the market either tomorrow night or Monday.

365 Distractions, take 2

While I distract my self not only from UFO’s but from housework as well, I wonder what the magazine will entice me to make today. Lots go and have a look.
Eek, not this one, looks like it might be a bit uncomfortable and stab your neck..

This looks pretty cool…

Or maybe this one, I do like turquoise, classic colour….

Bad bad iPad pictures, but the finished product looks much nicer from the camera.
I made two of the back to front earrings. I only had gold studs so no choice of silver here. I do quite like this idea, much easier to keep track of the back piece when it’s joined together.

And my turquoise ones, simply done with memory wire, square chunks and silver spacers. A neat take on on the classic hoop.

A mountain of beads and ideas

Again, I only got to bead this afternoon, which turned into half the night. It’s now 11pm and I really should be thinking about sleep.. Well I am, but first I wanted to show you what I got made today. I am not just rushing out things that are mediocre to fill my table – if you could see my desk there are about 4 different things that I’m working on, thinking about, or tried but failed with. So the four you see here are the winners for today.
I do know that I need to get oodles more chain and ribbons to do these.

I found these double drilled beads and decided some stark contrast would work, along with a few Swarovski sliders.

The finished product from last night. Very pretty with dark blue ribbon to tie.

Glass and shell beads in a simple double strand tie back.

It sounds silly to write it, but after seeing something years ago, I’ve always wanted to do this… String multiple rows of turquoise. Weird, huh? But I really like this, definitely my favourite.

I wonder what I will do tomorrow…
Have a great day 🙂
Jennifer

It’s UFO day.

No, I’m not talking about aliens, UnFinished Objects. Or bead work in my case. Back the other week while I was cleaning I ended up with a basket of bits and bobs. Things to finish, pull apart, add to…
What I pull out of this basket may just need a little tweaking to finish it. It might be a focal bead in a bag that I’ve added beads to that might work together, or it might be something to fully pull apart and disperse the beads elsewhere, using the focal or beads elsewhere.

Last night I decided I had to get onto it, and pulled out 3 items. Different colours, different styles. And definitely, different when they are finished.
The before pictures..

A little tweaking here…

Adding some dangles and a chain and/or ribbon here….

And combining the two to make… I’m thinking maybe a focal point of a necklace…

Time to get to work.

Several hours later…..
All done, I think I was in a chain mood today.
From the top we have:

I added a toggle near the pendant that can be used as needed, while blending with the design, and added ribbon for the back half where it sits on your neck.

Next came turquoise. I had so much trouble,  fun, no confusion with this one. I made it up several ways, then on photographing it decided it didn’t look right so I changed it again. Happy with this result.
And lastly, the red and blue beads with chains.  This was one chunky bracelet, then I made it two and finally gave up on it, as I didn’t like it anymore.
I added chunky silver foil-look chain for a simple summer necklace. It’s quite short,  that will sit round the collar of a tee shirt.

i took out 3 links from each side after the picture was taken, so it is a bit shorter than what this shows.

Happy UFO day 🙂 and til my next one, what UFO’s do you have to work on?
