Charmed, I’m sure

It’s market week and I’ve been busy. It’s funny how things work out. I got out my book of charm jewellery and opened it to the first project, and from that point I just made and made. Didn’t look at the book til I’d finished – 8 bracelets, 1 pendant and 3 pairs of earrings later.
Not bad I’d say.

These are all for sale, let me know if you want anything. They’ll be off to market this week and then onto the website. Most of them have Swarovski crystals, please ask for prices.

Have a good rest of your week.

I’ve been shopping again

While I was wandering around the city yesterday I went off to Spotlight to check out their beady section and see what was on special. A few things, nothing I wanted but I did find this gorgeous owl, and a flower pendant that I can use on my asymmetrical necklaces. Being silver they will be easy enough to bead up.

I also found these gorgeous little ladies in another shop. Wooden and about 20cm they are small enough to place just about anywhere on my display, including in front of the large busts. They can used to display matching earrings and/or bracelets for necklace sets, or just a little something for a few pairs of similar styled/colour earrings.
I hung a memory wire bracelet on them to show the size.

Have a great Friday and there will be pictures and more fun from the market on Sunday 🙂

Rainy day makes and frustrations

My box of ufo’s isn’t getting any smaller, in fact, it’s almost multpliying. I’ve bought or been given some very cool funky beads and buttons that I want to make with these rather than starting on the other. Maybe sometime this week I will just sort the boxes, pull apart nad re distribute the beds and findings. I still have to sort and pack away the box of bits I received months ago. But seeing as I am just pottering through them, and using the contents, I don’t have a problem with it.

It was a nasty rainy day – perfect for being productive – and I got started this morning on buttons. And twine. Yeah, not so good. The twine kept fraying too much, I have to dip it in glue to stiffen it before I start again. I give that up to have a go at something else.

I bought two of these on purpose. I usually only make one of each item, but these were so cool, making two would not be so hard. I added, divided, cut and re-strung the wooden beads and then added the ribbon and chain. And what did I do. By the time I finished one I was bored, and frustrated. So, something simple but different was made.

These two are different, but very pretty. Silver flowers overlaid on the wooden

and I wanted some colour injected. Testing out the different ribbons to find a good match it was then hunt out the pretties and see what semi precious or other cool beads would work. I was thinking deep red, hot pink or bright blues. Or orange. I hate orange. But lots of people like orange.
After fiddling about I decided on a classic combination of coral and turquoise. Now to just find the fit pieces for charms…
The colours look much brighter in the flesh, the lighting is not very clear, even though I was directly under the light. I want to find something completely different for the other one. Wood, resin, clay, glass….?

Have a great weekend, I’ll be back with news of the market either tomorrow night or Monday.

Distractions…. all 365 of them

After being a busy little bee for 3 or 4 days with my UFO’s, I was going to have a quiet day and just chill, maybe read a book or two and of course deal with any housework that was sure to rear it’s ugly head. A day off to recharge.
Well, my body had different ideas. After waking at 3am to my son being sick, I woke a few hours later with that dreaded feeling myself and thus spent the day between the bathroom and sleeping. Today I woke feeling much better, ravenous to boot (although I know better than to stuff myself) and dying for a coffee. Achy, and tired, but better, alive at least.
The body is still in mending mode so I took it easy with a few chores and then went to see what the post office had for me.
A whole magazine full of ideas and… distractions. I was ready to get back into my UFO’s but I’m not so sure now.
My pre ordered “365 earrings to make” from the “Bead Style” magazine had arrived and flicking through I found a couple of things to get onto right now. As in, right now. Oh yeah, I’m feeling much better all of a sudden.

So coffee in hand, I am off to my desk to hunt out a few beads and use this new found inspiration.
My first idea are these blue curved beads.

20130122-203203.jpg
I thought I still had the black ones that are slightly longer, but not to worry. I’ll just make a pair each of gold and silver. Same beads, two completely different looks.

The silver pair have two strands of delicate chain with dangles of Swarovski, lapis lazuli and pearls.

The gold has glass, Swarovski and Aventurine rounds. Once I started to assemble them I noticed it needed something else

…. Enter the dark blue Swarovski, which adds contrast, yet brings them all together nicely.

20130122-201636.jpg
They are slightly longer than the silver, with both being chunky but still feminine and delicate.

I think my UFO’s might get lost for a week or so while I work my way though a few new sets of earrings.
Here’s a better look at both of them…

$20 each
While they are quite long, they are very light, something you could easily wear all day. I might even make a pair for me.
Happy crafting 🙂

A mountain of beads and ideas

Again, I only got to bead this afternoon, which turned into half the night. It’s now 11pm and I really should be thinking about sleep.. Well I am, but first I wanted to show you what I got made today. I am not just rushing out things that are mediocre to fill my table – if you could see my desk there are about 4 different things that I’m working on, thinking about, or tried but failed with. So the four you see here are the winners for today.
I do know that I need to get oodles more chain and ribbons to do these.

20121109-225841.jpg
I found these double drilled beads and decided some stark contrast would work, along with a few Swarovski sliders.

The finished product from last night. Very pretty with dark blue ribbon to tie.

Glass and shell beads in a simple double strand tie back.

It sounds silly to write it, but after seeing something years ago, I’ve always wanted to do this… String multiple rows of turquoise. Weird, huh? But I really like this, definitely my favourite.

I wonder what I will do tomorrow…
Have a great day 🙂

Some new ideas…

While wandering the halls of Deloraine, well, sheds actually. I noticed something. All the jewellery stalls I saw, were selling the same sorts of things. Same stuff different stall kind of thing. All in styles that are very on trend at the moment.
Chunky resin, ceramic/porcelain pendants, glass, polymer in balls (literally, little balls of polymer on chains) or wooden pendants painted and strung on chain. That type of thing. All very much the same. Not boring, but almost. I wanted to see something different. These things I think are the reason I have not been accepted to the new market coming up. My pieces are not ‘on trend’. (love the day my style becomes on trend!)

Now I’m not going to change who I am or what I make, these things will drift off and other things will be popular. But it gave me an epiphany which I am going to work on.
Sure, I’ll still do my glass pendants, and my Wraptures, but I’m going to work on asymmetrical necklaces. Off centre, not equal on each side… That sort of thing. I’ve noticed that while brilliant, they are not so popular and yet I still see people wearing them.

20121107-211245.jpg

I’ve googled and checked out what seems to be happening, they are everywhere – like a lot of jewellery styles – and can be made in many different ways.
I want to make more of my long feminine necklaces – like the one up there ^^ – with different flowers, and maybe even glass, or clay as the focal on the side. And also those that use fibre tie backs with a small amount of focal beads at the front.
I have lots of ideas already and have just under 3 days til the first summer market at Woodbridge starts, so I had better get a wriggle on.

I can still have fun making things that are different, but looking at the stalls in Deloraine, you could see a piece of the person in each piece. Know the artist by the look and style of each piece.
I don’t think you can do that with mine. There is too much difference. I’ll my mark my way.

And I would really really love to go to Deloraine next year.
There is something else major happening though that may get in the way, and which is prioritised first. (not telling, but you’ll know when the time is right, I promise)

Have a great day/night 🙂
