Year of the bead!

Well, that’s what I said back in January. And things were hopping along quite nicely. Until life kinda jumped in and without being very polite nudged the beads off to the side for a bit.
And in my creative mess I wasn’t in the mood to drag it back…until now. I’m making a new start and keeping things simple. I almost feel like I’m selling myself out with this, by deciding on selling multiples, and going mainstream with my stock. I, like many other beaders want to sell one of a kind (OOAK) items and not have many of the same thing. Well, sometimes it just doesn’t work like that. I’ve known this for a while and, yes, have been in denial about it. By doing the few things I will be I can still keep my creative difference even with making stacks of multiples.
It may be June and half way through the year already but The year of the Bead is back on track!
There’s something I want to test out, which are easy to make and can be whipped up in no time at all. Even at markets if I so desire. A simple, stylish something that pretty well all women would like to wear (I hope).
Cheers beady friends, Jen

Finger and Ear candy rock!

So, it’s been pretty busy around here, and while I haven’t been in here, I haven’t forgotten either. It’s been in the back of my head to get back, upload things to the website, and generally do little bits as often as I can.

Today’s job was…. actually I’m not sure what I had planned for today (that was bad planning wasn’t it?). Despite my distinct lack of planning I have done a couple of things.

The website now boasts a group of my felted ‘ball & chain’ necklaces under the Limited Edition banner. I wont be making any more of these, and once they’re gone, that’s it. All over. At $18 each they’re pretty good value and easy. There are only 9 available.

Another item I have uploaded are the Friendly Plastic pieces. At $15 each for either a ring or pair of stud earrings, these are great value and make buying multiples for last minute presents a breeze.
They are both available in all the colours which I have posted pictures of in the ‘Collections’ section. There is no way to add a drop down box for colour selection so I’m relying on people to write it down and add it to their cart details.

As I said before, theses are both items I am happy to mass produce, as they are not a definite individual item like most of my jewellery.

The next item to put up, not sure yet. I have a short story to write later tonight, a half day at both home and work tomorrow, so maybe I’ll look through the photos and check what I have ready to go, I’m thinking more everyday necklaces as compared to asymmetrical.
And lastly, I need to get my vague routine under way to allow for all the usual house/family obligations and making new items. This point wil take the longest. I tend to get very distracted when hubby is home, but if I don’t work while he is here, then I lose track and don’t work when he is not (which is when I should be the most productive).

Til next time, tomorrow maybe, be sure to check out the website, give me feedback please and don’t forget to share around.

Marcato Designs or check out the funky link on the right hand side. I am so happy to have been able to make a cool link like that.

Friendly Plastic, a mini tutorial.

Ok, it’s not really a tutorial, but more of a pictorial show of what I what do when I make my earrings, rings and hair clips.
I read quite a few articles before i started to figure out what I should and shouldn’t do and while it is still a little hit and miss I have got it about right.

So I took the time while making earrings yesterday to get pictures of my process.
The finished product. I got these out to see what colours I needed to make. I have one of each at the moment.

After cutting them carefully and rounding out any sharp bits, the scraps go into a bag to reuse later. So long as you can melt it again, it can be used. Nothing is wasted.
Glued onto earring bases and the final product.

And there you have it. For simple product like I’m making it is super easy to do with quick results. I like this also because it reminds me of working glass, shiny and the end result can be different to that which you imagine. Speaking of which I need to buy some more, and then show you what you can do with it.

Have a good weekend, market roundup tomorrow evening.

Sneak Peaks…

I have been on a roll the last few days. “On fire” as one of my FB likers said. And that about explains it. I love it when this happens, especially when I am getting ready for a market, new things are good for custom, if people see the same old things they just won’t come back. I do rotate things and just hope that I don’t repeat the same pieces too close to each other.

As always I take pics of everything I make. The following are just rough pictures so I know what I made, should I sell them at tomorrow’s market. Whatever I bring home will get the full photographic treatment at a later date.

I started of thinking I’ll make a dozen rings and about the same of bracelets as I needed more of those particular items. Necklaces are just re producing on their own in their storage drawers…
Not only did I get those numbers made, but I went over and above. On fire indeed. I just had to make more.
So 19 new rings and 20 new bracelets later I figured I would have to stop. First it was basic ones in all colours, then I decided that I should make the same colours in semi precious stones. I will be making more after dinner, my cheapy simple earrings (the ones kids can buy, or as a little extra to match something) and maybe a few memory wire bracelets aswell.

A post earlier about “market in my car” showed all my boxes and the table. Well today I fit in just the boxes, in the boot, with no folding of the seats at all. Perfect. I just and to move the back seats forward and then tilt the back forward a bit also. Yep, my back seats behave the same way the front seats do, with the exception that the front seats don’t fold flat.
