Market mix up time.

This weekend is the second Huonville market, and hoping it’s a little busier. Last fortnight wasn’t too bad, but more people is always good – stall holders aswell as customers.
I have redone my display as I’m able to have a tiny bit more space and on Wednesday I’ll be picking up some more props. Nude half bodies with no head that I can hang on the wall. These will be super handy for here as well as Woodbridge, well, pretty well anywhere I can have wall space and a few hooks.
My new display will allow height, different items, earrings!!! and look much more inviting.

My banner will need a better string system for hanging, but I will sort that once my girls are hanging on the wall.

Have a great day, see you on Wednesday 🙂

Rainy day makes and frustrations

My box of ufo’s isn’t getting any smaller, in fact, it’s almost multpliying. I’ve bought or been given some very cool funky beads and buttons that I want to make with these rather than starting on the other. Maybe sometime this week I will just sort the boxes, pull apart nad re distribute the beds and findings. I still have to sort and pack away the box of bits I received months ago. But seeing as I am just pottering through them, and using the contents, I don’t have a problem with it.

It was a nasty rainy day – perfect for being productive – and I got started this morning on buttons. And twine. Yeah, not so good. The twine kept fraying too much, I have to dip it in glue to stiffen it before I start again. I give that up to have a go at something else.

I bought two of these on purpose. I usually only make one of each item, but these were so cool, making two would not be so hard. I added, divided, cut and re-strung the wooden beads and then added the ribbon and chain. And what did I do. By the time I finished one I was bored, and frustrated. So, something simple but different was made.

These two are different, but very pretty. Silver flowers overlaid on the wooden

and I wanted some colour injected. Testing out the different ribbons to find a good match it was then hunt out the pretties and see what semi precious or other cool beads would work. I was thinking deep red, hot pink or bright blues. Or orange. I hate orange. But lots of people like orange.
After fiddling about I decided on a classic combination of coral and turquoise. Now to just find the fit pieces for charms…
The colours look much brighter in the flesh, the lighting is not very clear, even though I was directly under the light. I want to find something completely different for the other one. Wood, resin, clay, glass….?

Have a great weekend, I’ll be back with news of the market either tomorrow night or Monday.

Space and display

I went shopping this morning, for food, but as is the way, while out I found something that would work for my new look display. Considering I cannot find this darling lady’s head I need to find something else..

I think this cute tree which will be perfect. and for just $12, a bargain.

And with earrings:

My display as I set it out the other night, with space for a cute earring tree.

I look forward to the next market.

Photographs and website upload

After a weird and busy week I am now at the point where I will be getting everything, and I mean everything, uploaded onto the website.
I have just spent an hour or so going through all the jewellery and sorting it onto the table, then matching it with pictures and putting it away. What is left on the table needs to be photographed. Simple. But there is an awful lot. This would be because I haven’t taken pictures of earrings or bracelets when I usually take them to market only.

And then there is more confusion as I have so many folders of pictures. Once the website is done, a few new things made and the market over and done with, I will be going through all my albums and properly sorting them out. Deleting and moving as required.
This computer work is a pain but a necessary evil I must put up with.

I will also – in addition to the website – putting all my items up here (as a post) with the Price list page reflecting each item. This way if there is anything you would like, you can easily see if it has been sold and if not, click straight through to the website for purchase. A I make one of each item, I cannot make an exact match, but if you would like something similar I will endeavour to do so. Ay items that have multiples will be mentioned (eg: 2 and when sold, 1/2 Sold, then Sold Out).

I’ll leave you with a gratuitous picture because I can and I like adding pictures to my posts.
Have a great day. 🙂

365 Distractions, take 2

While I distract my self not only from UFO’s but from housework as well, I wonder what the magazine will entice me to make today. Lots go and have a look.
Eek, not this one, looks like it might be a bit uncomfortable and stab your neck..

20130123-144911.jpg
This looks pretty cool…

20130123-144620.jpg
Or maybe this one, I do like turquoise, classic colour….

20130123-144733.jpg

Bad bad iPad pictures, but the finished product looks much nicer from the camera.
I made two of the back to front earrings. I only had gold studs so no choice of silver here. I do quite like this idea, much easier to keep track of the back piece when it’s joined together.

20130123-162731.jpg

20130123-162739.jpg

And my turquoise ones, simply done with memory wire, square chunks and silver spacers. A neat take on on the classic hoop.

Happy crafting

Marvellous Markets

Today was my first market for 2013, and the first also for Woodbridge Village Markets. It was one of those rare days where people were talkative. It was a lovely change and I definitely appreciated it.

I usually get to set up at this market on a Saturday afternoon which gives me a one up in case I need to add to or alter my display. Like I did this time. I don’t mind which tables I am given (I have a regular spot) but when I pack my boxes with a certain table in mind and it changes, it means re sorting props and a waste of time. I could of course pack everything I may need, but I want to keep my packing limited to the car boot which is 4 boxes.

20130113-204419.jpg

I changed my layout a little today. All my canvases stayed at home, and I took my bag rack. But then I had a normal table and a card table. Ahh, what to do. I fiddled around a bit and it all fit, but I will work on it for something better next time. And then ask that I get the same table each time. Puh-lease. It was awkward and left m out of whack.

What I did take was a whole lot of bracelets and a new earring rack. Only problem there, my earrings are usually too long for the spaces allocated. Grr. I have a 3 tier bracelet rack that is now full, plus my single tier which has the semi precious one on it. My basket of memory wire bracelets as chockers as I made 8 more, and the basket of $5 earrings was bursting.

20130113-204507.jpg

A few changes to make for next time.
The bag rack will have only half as many bags, it was way too full and not really appealing, even though there were plenty of lookers, I think too crowded.
I will also take my easels and pin the glass and polymer necklaces to those. Easier to see and label. Buy another bracelet rack, and use both my earring stands. Or make smaller earrings. As well as my 3 girls and any other busts I choose to take, (normally 3 small ones).

I am not too fussed about the quantity of stock, the beginning of February heralds the Annual Middleton Expo, so having a full stall will be nice. I just need another table, a small one.

The other good points for today. I sold a necklace that had been around a while and has always garnered lots of appreciative comments. (C’mon people, love it, buy it!) A wonderful, classy lady arrived that I know and really took to it. We tried it on her and it looked gorgeous. She said it was too dark for her, but it worked perfectly with her outfit, and she wore it so well. (Everyone else would say how good it was for an evening out, not this chick). Anyway, her husband says yeah, but looks too gothic on you. So she bought it for a daughter/grand daughter and I get to deliver it tomorrow along with a repair job I had done earlier for her.

20130113-204310.jpg
Bad photo, but you get the idea. Still a gorgeous necklace.
The other times bought were put on and not taken off, I only wrapped one item to take away. Love it when that happens.

I now have to go and empty those beady boxes, and stash the others back in the corner. (Several hours later and have not done anything, actually got to speak to hubby who is overseas)

See you soon, and be crafty 🙂

Advertising

The Westwinds newsletter came out yesterday and I frantically flicked the pages to find my ad. There it was! A good size, half page, with plenty of space around, but the email I sent transferred into smaller printing, so should I take an ad out in next months I’ll ask them to maybe up the size a point or two.

Even if I only get a couple of responses it will have done its job. Of course it would be great to have an avalanche of people, but I take the realistic approach to these things.

On an aside, mum is heading to her Quilters meeting on Saturday which includes a Christmassy trade tables and is taking my Christmas earrings. Again, realistically, I’m not expecting a huge response, even if only a couple sold I would be happy. (If I had to I would, but it would not be ideal to be making more earrings on Sat night for Sundays market).

My Ad!!! Which even hubby thought was ok… lol

I hate dolphins – but love earrings!

I’ve been shopping this week. New ideas for market displays, as if I don’t have enough props already. I have new busts coming – which I was hoping to have arrived by now, but tomorrow is Friday, so fingers crossed they arrive. Once i have them in my hot little hands, you will get to see them. They are beautiful. What else… Oh, a bundle of chain and some gorgeous little rose links. I found a nice brown basket ($4) which should hold my canvases, and I can then have them all on the table with me, a plank of wood ($1, wait and see) and still to come a whole rainbow of ribbons and some cute wooden buttons – all 140 of them, technically, 2×70 – with patterns painted on.
Then there was the ugly looking picture stand with dolphins on – I hate dolphins for home decor, euck – but figured if I get rid of the dolphins, it will work perfectly for earrings. I was correct. Hey, for $2 it’s no real loss if it didn’t work.
Second hand shops can be a haven for display items…

Now because my displays are not all here I’ll leave you with some more earrings while I clean my desk and start work what I’m taking to market this week.

And now the pretties… I have had so much fun this week making earrings, they have not all been easy (the gold ones with the chain? pain in the butt!) but the almost ‘instant gratification’ is needed sometimes.

Christmassy earrings

As I mentioned about a week ago, I have 3 markets in 3 weeks. All leading up to Christmas which usually means lots of little last minute gifts or smaller stocking fillers…
I decided to make more earrings – pretty well everyone wears them – around here with the weather warming up, longer hair is swept up and away from the face and neck – perfect for earring wearing.

I am not a fan of the Winter Christmas earring trends that abound this time of year – cute yeah, but not suitable for a hot summer Christmas. So no reindeer, snowmen or snowflakes, maybe an angel or two of I have their wings. But I will make spiral trees with dangles and using bead cap cones for trees with dangles… All in Christmassy colours of red, green and gold. With silver and maybe purple thrown in for good measure.

It was a productive day and while most of these will make their way to markets I need to make more, plus a few for the website only.
