Item up for Auction

After a week of wanting to do things but not having the oomph to do it – you know the drill, when your get up and go just ran away. That was me. I had quite a few things I wanted to do, but I have found if I am not in the right space then to leave it. When I am ready to roll, I just go with it and let the beads flow. Yesterday I got that chance, with the afternoon and evening letting me get back into it. Several pieces are hanging on my biggest bust, I will leave them for a day or two and see how they look. Sometimes they don’t work.

The best thing that got me going was the chance to put a piece into an auction that is happening at the next market.
Around Australia, during June, we have a massive fundraising effort to help the children’s ward at the local hospitals and the radio station that does it in Hobart will be attending the market and having an auction.

All stallholders were invited to put something in, and I thought “why not?”
It will gets lots of people looking at and hearing about my jewellery. Just what I want. But then it gets scary. (Enter scared of succeeding thoughts). This much more than just having a table and showing my things. These people will be live on radio (or as live as possible I spose) and they have influence. If I was going to put anything in, it had to be good.
While I was thinking about any already made items, I caught a glimpse of a chain necklace that I had yet to finish. All it needed was the ribbon at the back.
Funny how it takes a deadline to actually get things done. Although the market is next weekend, and I can bring it on the day, I wanted it done so I knew it was ready.
I am calling it ‘my piece de resistance’ but will work on another name ready for next week. I just thought of maybe “life’s mottos” or “values of life”. Naming my pieces is always hard and this one needs to be special. Any help would be appreciated, and credited.

What it’s made from: black and silver chain, Peruzi hand made beads, Swarovski crystals in green and navy, green ribbon, silver toggle clasp.

I hate dolphins – but love earrings!

I’ve been shopping this week. New ideas for market displays, as if I don’t have enough props already. I have new busts coming – which I was hoping to have arrived by now, but tomorrow is Friday, so fingers crossed they arrive. Once i have them in my hot little hands, you will get to see them. They are beautiful. What else… Oh, a bundle of chain and some gorgeous little rose links. I found a nice brown basket ($4) which should hold my canvases, and I can then have them all on the table with me, a plank of wood ($1, wait and see) and still to come a whole rainbow of ribbons and some cute wooden buttons – all 140 of them, technically, 2×70 – with patterns painted on.
Then there was the ugly looking picture stand with dolphins on – I hate dolphins for home decor, euck – but figured if I get rid of the dolphins, it will work perfectly for earrings. I was correct. Hey, for $2 it’s no real loss if it didn’t work.
Second hand shops can be a haven for display items…

Now because my displays are not all here I’ll leave you with some more earrings while I clean my desk and start work what I’m taking to market this week.

And now the pretties… I have had so much fun this week making earrings, they have not all been easy (the gold ones with the chain? pain in the butt!) but the almost ‘instant gratification’ is needed sometimes.

Have a great day

More Christmassy earrings

And lastly, because it is summer here and cherries abound….

More to be made and shown in the following days…

Christmassy earrings

As I mentioned about a week ago, I have 3 markets in 3 weeks. All leading up to Christmas which usually means lots of little last minute gifts or smaller stocking fillers…
I decided to make more earrings – pretty well everyone wears them – around here with the weather warming up, longer hair is swept up and away from the face and neck – perfect for earring wearing.

I am not a fan of the Winter Christmas earring trends that abound this time of year – cute yeah, but not suitable for a hot summer Christmas. So no reindeer, snowmen or snowflakes, maybe an angel or two of I have their wings. But I will make spiral trees with dangles and using bead cap cones for trees with dangles… All in Christmassy colours of red, green and gold. With silver and maybe purple thrown in for good measure.

It was a productive day and while most of these will make their way to markets I need to make more, plus a few for the website only.

The rest will come in another post….
Enjoy 🙂
