Bumpy beads

A month ago nearly I started this funky necklace.Yes, I’ve been that busy/dis-organised that I have finally got my act together to finish it.
I love it. Colourful, and long enough to pop straight over your head it is perfect for the end of summer, or to brighten up those winter outfits.
I took it along to market today where it got lots of compliments, but was not loved quite enough to find a new home.
On the other hand I sold one of my chunky multi chain/beaded strand necklaces that looked fabulous on this lady and when she said what she was going to wear it with – I dare say she’ll get loads of compliments from it.
These moments make me happy.
(A strange market day, but profitable for me, you just can’t pick’em)

It was a green night for market preparation.

I’m not very happy. Last night I typed up this great post and send it to publish, and it disappeared. Obviously I pressed the wrong button, but it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. It was well written and beautiful. Now I just have to try and recreate it.

I had been having a wonderfully productive day and my night was set with making a couple of things. Then I was interrupted, twice. Now while they were good interruptions, it still puts you out of kilt and knocks the oomph out of the flow. Ah well. It is what it is.

The first make was a remake, this one was simply the beaded dangle on the ribbon ends, which was a choker length. I’m not liking the pale green ribbon, but everyone likes different things and it matches the beads. I simply added chain to be end of the ribbon and the centre bead . Much better and prettier.

The other was some green wooden pendants that I matched with fine silver flowers. Adding the black chain and a left over piece of ribbon that matched perfectly and a simple asymmetrical necklace is made. I love the deep colour of the green that sits nicely with the silver and black.

I spent part of the afternoon packing my boxes for the market this weekend. Re-sorting my jewellery and taking a good collection. I will be taking my smaller table for extra display space, so I had to sort through all my props and figure out what I want to do. Then I jumped on eBay to look for more large twine busts. Woah, expensive, which I knew, but still. I want at least 3 more.

The new market has their own Facebook page, and from the looks of it they like to take pictures and show everyone off. As I do with my market FB page. It’s going to be a little scary being on the other side of the camera, but I’m a believer of the adage that any publicity is good publicity. I’ll try not to shut my eyes or pull silly faces (not on purpose mind you, it just happens).

I’m hoping to get a few more things made tonight. I’m thinking a pre website special is coming up very soon.
Have a beady weekend 🙂

New makes and funky buttons

A couple to new things I’ve made last night and this afternoon.

I’m not sure if the beaded link on the brown focal is too much. I’m tossing up between silver wire (good) and more ribbon (too much maybe?) and maybe even leather or twine and knotted.

20130423-162031.jpg

I like this green one, a revamped necklace, altered slightly to account for the difference in hanging.

20130423-162106.jpg

One I am working on. Restringing the lapis chips onto 3 strands and attaching to the spider web focal. I’ll find a neat link for the other side. It will be finished with chain or ribbon, as I’m not sure if I still have a blue to match or contrast with these beads.

20130423-162326.jpg

And some funky buttons (mum had in her show bag from a recent conference). I am already thinking of what to use them with.

Have fun crafters 🙂

It’s hard being creative sometimes….

This is what I said to hubby last night after his comment “you haven’t emptied this box yet” in regards to the order of beads I received several months ago. Yes months. “But you can put them on the shelf, or in containers”
All that is true. But I find once new beads are in boxes on the shelf I tend to forget about them. This way, when I opened the box this morning I found my chain and some focal beads to work on. Much easier.

Today is making day. And yes I am feeling decidedly creative. This creative mojo is a problem. For anyone who writes, makes, sings, does anything that uses the right side of the brain, Mojo and Inspiration is a much needed commodity.
How many times have we had the urge to do and just not being ale to let it loose. Or the other side, wanted to be creative, had all the time and yet… Nothing. No matter what you try, nothing seems to work, gel, look or sound the way it should.

I’ve been like the last little while. Alternating between the two. I might have spurts of creativity but not the time to make them last longer.

Today is working. Like magic. It started briefly during the week, in lead up to today. I made a start on one or two items last night and this morning it was all there ready to go.

As the picture shows, I have made 7 items, some just simple remakes into my new style, amongst the mess of bead order.

20130407-130756.jpg

I will be getting good pictures of each tomorrow so keep an eye out on my Facebook and here for those.
Don’t forget, tomorrow is Monday so my new special will be announced for this week.

That would be my break over, time to get back to it.
Hope your weekend is going well.
Jen 🙂

– today was marked as making day as all but one of my boys have headed north to the V8 racing. I won’t see them til about 9pm tonight after leaving at 7 this morning. I would have liked to go, but it was it to be this time. I don’t mind too much as I am on a roll now –

Photographs and website upload

After a weird and busy week I am now at the point where I will be getting everything, and I mean everything, uploaded onto the website.
I have just spent an hour or so going through all the jewellery and sorting it onto the table, then matching it with pictures and putting it away. What is left on the table needs to be photographed. Simple. But there is an awful lot. This would be because I haven’t taken pictures of earrings or bracelets when I usually take them to market only.

And then there is more confusion as I have so many folders of pictures. Once the website is done, a few new things made and the market over and done with, I will be going through all my albums and properly sorting them out. Deleting and moving as required.
This computer work is a pain but a necessary evil I must put up with.

I will also – in addition to the website – putting all my items up here (as a post) with the Price list page reflecting each item. This way if there is anything you would like, you can easily see if it has been sold and if not, click straight through to the website for purchase. A I make one of each item, I cannot make an exact match, but if you would like something similar I will endeavour to do so. Ay items that have multiples will be mentioned (eg: 2 and when sold, 1/2 Sold, then Sold Out).

I’ll leave you with a gratuitous picture because I can and I like adding pictures to my posts.
Have a great day. 🙂

365 Distractions, take 2

While I distract my self not only from UFO’s but from housework as well, I wonder what the magazine will entice me to make today. Lots go and have a look.
Eek, not this one, looks like it might be a bit uncomfortable and stab your neck..

20130123-144911.jpg
This looks pretty cool…

20130123-144620.jpg
Or maybe this one, I do like turquoise, classic colour….

20130123-144733.jpg

Bad bad iPad pictures, but the finished product looks much nicer from the camera.
I made two of the back to front earrings. I only had gold studs so no choice of silver here. I do quite like this idea, much easier to keep track of the back piece when it’s joined together.

20130123-162731.jpg

20130123-162739.jpg

And my turquoise ones, simply done with memory wire, square chunks and silver spacers. A neat take on on the classic hoop.

Happy crafting

Distractions…. all 365 of them

After being a busy little bee for 3 or 4 days with my UFO’s, I was going to have a quiet day and just chill, maybe read a book or two and of course deal with any housework that was sure to rear it’s ugly head. A day off to recharge.
Well, my body had different ideas. After waking at 3am to my son being sick, I woke a few hours later with that dreaded feeling myself and thus spent the day between the bathroom and sleeping. Today I woke feeling much better, ravenous to boot (although I know better than to stuff myself) and dying for a coffee. Achy, and tired, but better, alive at least.
The body is still in mending mode so I took it easy with a few chores and then went to see what the post office had for me.
A whole magazine full of ideas and… distractions. I was ready to get back into my UFO’s but I’m not so sure now.
My pre ordered “365 earrings to make” from the “Bead Style” magazine had arrived and flicking through I found a couple of things to get onto right now. As in, right now. Oh yeah, I’m feeling much better all of a sudden.

20130122-201328.jpg

So coffee in hand, I am off to my desk to hunt out a few beads and use this new found inspiration.
My first idea are these blue curved beads.

20130122-203203.jpg
I thought I still had the black ones that are slightly longer, but not to worry. I’ll just make a pair each of gold and silver. Same beads, two completely different looks.

The silver pair have two strands of delicate chain with dangles of Swarovski, lapis lazuli and pearls.

20130122-201942.jpg

The gold has glass, Swarovski and Aventurine rounds. Once I started to assemble them I noticed it needed something else

20130122-201437.jpg
…. Enter the dark blue Swarovski, which adds contrast, yet brings them all together nicely.

20130122-201636.jpg
They are slightly longer than the silver, with both being chunky but still feminine and delicate.

20130122-201150.jpg

I think my UFO’s might get lost for a week or so while I work my way though a few new sets of earrings.
Here’s a better look at both of them…

20130122-202103.jpg

20130122-202113.jpg
$20 each
While they are quite long, they are very light, something you could easily wear all day. I might even make a pair for me.
Happy crafting 🙂

More markets means more makings.

I can’t really say “it’s that time again”, coz for me it’s always “that time”. Making, beading, sewing. Implementing my ideas. Or at least trying to. I have many items just sitting, waiting to be finished or beads I have bagged up with some idea in mind. (To make sure I don’t forget I started doing a rough drawing with comments and tucked it into the bag. Whether I actually used it is beside the point).

One of these was some beautiful link beads with words on them handmade from a friend elsewhere in Australia that I had for ages, with a whole collection of Swarovski beads. I don’t really know what I was going to do with them, just that they went together, and that’s how it was to be.

It has changed a couple of times since I started it 2 nights ago, and I am nearly finished. But the worst part is to come. Adding the section that goes round your neck and making sure the front piece sits properly, not twisted or out of shape. Not always an easy feat. This one will be a semi choker length.

This is it, hanging around waiting. I love the blue and green and the dark chain that matches well with the black writing on the beads.

20130110-072933.jpg

I have so many necklaces they are coming out my ears… no, that would be earrings, aah whatever. Too many and yet I still want to make more. For my markets I had noted that I need more bracelets and rings, but no, I started an asymmetrical one with copper and the contrast of blue. It really pops! Oops.

20130110-073051.jpg

Before the necklace I made this bracelets with carnelian chunks, and a blue bead that Pops! and some copper chain linked through. Even thought it orange toned, I really like it. (Love the contrast, it must Pop! The talk is that when you use contrasting colours, something pops!)

20130110-073157.jpg

My next bracelet will be polymer beads with faux pearls in a double strand and there might be beads left over to make a necklace and ring as well.

Buttons buttons and lots of beads….

Back in November I was scrounging around on eBay, not really looking for anything in particular when I came across these gorgeous painted wooden buttons. They were so cheap I just had to buy two lots. I now had 140 buttons on their way with no real idea of what I wanted to use them for. Typical of an obsessed person. Just have to have it. Just because, and well, you just love it.
They finally arrived today, or yesterday (it’s been over a week since I’ve been to the post office with all their public holidays off I just didn’t bother).
I have a few ideas, string them onto leather for a multi strand, or a couple of strands added to chain, maybe as a charm bracelet with other beads….

20130102-153637.jpg

My lovely sister in law rang me back in mid December and asked if she were to get me beads (thanks-for-letting-us-stay-beads) what would I like?? OMG! And oh, wow, where do I start?

I reeled off a couple of things and then said to surprise me. I am happy to say as I will receive items that I may not pick up myself otherwise, unless they are in a shop I know well (not likely to happen really) Which gives me a challenge to make something, different. The pile of goodies that arrived was amazing. Lots of bright colours, and some beautiful bead caps that I have always wanted to use but never got around to buying or even looking for. Check out the flowers, top left.

There was one small catch. Well, it’s not a catch really. She had picked out some flat shell hearts and I am to make her a long tie back style of necklace. Simple. Restring the beads and attach ribbon.

Having family to stay meant I had to find more room. In the end, there was only my craft room. Tables were moved, boxes stacked in the corner and now the room looks so good I don’t want to put the tables back. I will, but differently. This gives me the much needed kick to get everything sorted and organised. Organise being the word.

I’ll keep you posted on the results.

Simple felt beads necklace

Two weeks ago at the last market I found some gorgeous felted balls which just screamed out for me to buy and make into something. They were sold incredibly cheaply, 10 for $5 I think it was. I had an immediate idea in mind and it has taken me this long to do anything about it.
Thankfully the idea worked.
Please excuse the crappy pictures, it is night here so only ‘fake’ light is available (as compared with natural light…) which means more shadows.

If the lady has returned I will definitely be buying some more.
Strung simply on cotton or linked with wrapped loops and then added to chain makes a very simple and effective necklace. The chains are currently quite long, I will be taking some clasps and jump rings so if anyone wants it shorter I can fix it on the spot.
Selling these for $15 and $20
