New thoughts, and a massive SALE!!!

I’m a creative person. In lots of ways. I write. I take photos. I make things. I enjoy cooking and experimenting. And I have a short attention span. At times. For certain things. Well, most of the time actually, and especially for my beads. What sells, what doesn’t sell and what I’m wanting to make. It’s a hard thing. Finding that niche, that thing that will set you apart. Finding the style that will keep me interested for more than five minutes.
I love making necklaces and bracelets and things. All the beads, the time to design and make them. The frustration when they don’t go to plan and the joy when it all comes together.  Sometimes completely differently to what I envisioned. My work space has been a shambles for a while. It quite often is. I try really hard to keep it tidy, but the creative within me decides otherwise. And so a mess it stays.
The other day I had an epiphany. I would concentrate on the accessories side of my business. The small things. Scarf bails, brooches, pendants, rings and earrings.
So with that in mind I can finally start on tidying my room with a plan in mind. Moving cupboards, sorting beads and tossing them out (eek! yes I did it).
Sure it’s coming up to winter and these items will sell better, but I find they are also are becoming my bread and butter items. The regular sellers.
I’m in the process of updating the website and am having a huge sale. To help shift my old stock and make room for new items coming through it’s a massive 40% off sale. Yep, I know that’s huge. I want to move things, so I can get onto my new ideas. At the moment it is 40%off the total but I will be changing the prices to reflect the items that are on sale as there will be my new regular stock also for sale.

So come on over to the website – click on the link to the top right – and go shopping. Remember I will be adding and moving items around regularly so be quick if you see something you like.

Cheers, Jen

Taking a beading break

It’s been way way too long since I’ve been here, or anywhere much in the blogosphere. Dottering about, making, selling, writing, reading.. to say life has gotten in the way is an understatement. I’ve barely touched my craft room (it’s a freaking mess), and keeping my motivation at any kind of productive, working level has been hard.
I have to do some serious work on my website which will be happening this week. I have to make time purely for that otherwise it will never get done and I may as well not even have it. Paying for something that is not working.

I have some new items to put up on the site, and want to have a few limited collections to sell off.  All in good time.  As I tell my husband, I have a list a mile long of things I want to do, and that’s without adding in anything to do with kids, house or him.
So many things to do, so little time to do it.

BonneyBird – Marcato’s display

This morning I drove off up the road to see Rachel at BonneyBird to update and tidy my display. I may pay her a commission to sell my goods but it’s still my responsibility to make sure everything is looking ok, she is happy and there are enough jewellery items and choices on display.

How could you not want to see what’s inside with an entrance that looks like this?

When I went overseas late last year I invoiced her a small box worth so she had enough to keep it full – or top up if she sold that much – and today I got that box out to have a look.
There were only 3 pieces left in it. Woo!

My display is now tidy and fresh, with all items on the table. I re-arranged things and have a few ideas to zip it up another notch later on. Namely making it more of a pink and white display, with some extra height. When I called in the other day Rachel had placed a mirror on the table which was awesome as I had not thought of supplying one. The only problem here, it was for sale, so if sold, there was nothing for my potential buyers to check out how a necklace might look. So I delivered one of my own. I have my banner on the wall behind, and while I like it, I feel it is a little bland, and would like to update it. It hangs wonky, but I know how to fix that. And then I can update it. Banner wise, is to get a vertical banner for markets.

Last night I went off to a garden birthday party and several things happened. My name was thrown around a bit with some of the guests not believing my name really is Jennifer Hawkins. Miss Australia, you say? no no no, Miss Universe thank you very much.
But the important bits, 1) Rachel was there and said I had sold something else that very morning, 2) I got lots of compliments on the necklace I was wearing, 3) another customer was wearing her necklace which was getting lots of attention and I hence got the compliments and 4) a friend asked me how much a certain item was she had seen on Facebook and said she was very interested in it as a gift (and has since said ‘Sold’ for delivery this week).
To say I am happy is an understatement. My new cards, flyers and the car magnet will be arriving this week ready for the big fair on Saturday, so there will be more pictures later. And I am super excited about seeing how they look!

Til then, keep creative
Jen 🙂

Monday makes

I finally got back to the craft room and got busy. Between running around after the kids and doing other jobs I made 11 bookmarks and the earrings are from last week -and ran out of time to photograph them. These simple earrings are always a winner at markets, and perfect for little girls or those adults who like small unobtrusive ear decorations.

Hoping I get back into later in the week, there are several unfinished items I want to play with – bracelets in particular.

Jen.

It’s finished – and I love it!!

I finally got a couple of hours where I could concentrate on the last few things in my room. And boy does it look good now.
You know how it is, the last things are the fiddly bits that you don’t know what to do with, and whether you keep them or not.
I have one box left, but it is of no issue to the rest of the room.
Halfway through I had the idea to make a big spacey room, that would not feel crowded – and so I can crank the music and dance my silly self crazy when I feel like it.
Check out the pictures. Sorry they’re a bit dark or overly ‘flashed’ due to not being able to get them in daylight as planned.

Love this wall. Just because.

Overview from the other end – looks a bit messy, but is not so bad, and very user friendly. Sewing desk on left, utility desk in front of bookcase.

Now to get the mojo back, it’s upsetting by that it has been so hit and miss lately. But I don’t like to make things when not fully in here mood otherwise they turn out crap. Been there done that, not a good look.

Have a good weekend 🙂

Flourish Market

Straight up. If I come back to this market, I can leave home at least half an hour later. We ended up being so early we were the only ones set up when everyone else arrived.
Getting that first coffee helped and I made some sales quickly thereafter. And that was about it. Even though the weather was nice, neither too hot nor cold it was a very slow market day, and it’s a bit of a disappointment. But, every market is different and you can never tell what might happen.

And my stall for today. My neighbour remarked how quickly I had it packed up when we finished, the same time as her and all she had was clothes to put in a suitcase.

Zero to Hero update

I posted all the things I’ve done with this challenge on my blog, and short of reblogging that post, or doing a copy and paste and changing some bits, this one will be basically the same.
It’s now day 12 and I’ve done 7 of them – Changing the theme, doing the header, playing with widgets, commenting on and finding other blogs (a little bit) and doing an About page. So I’ve already got an about page, but for those of us with one (I say after the basics of theme, title etc, an about page is the most important part) to maybe change it and look at how it is presented.
I’ve re written it, made it super simple so I’d like to know what you think. Should I add more to it, or not?
I have two half days this week available to get into the bead room before the weekend and a market on Sunday, so I’m not sure what will get made, but at least it is tidy now. I can find what I want.

Have a great day and I hope to see you soon
Jen 🙂

Who am I and why am I here

Over the next month there will be some extra not-so-crafty posts as I take part on the Zero to Hero (30 days to a better blog) Challenge on WordPress. Today’s post is about introducing myself, and I will also link my very post here.

This page is all about my crafty endeavours, market tips and hints, storage ideas. All crafty orientated, but the main idea is to showcase my beaded and jewellery pieces and put them out there.

A brief history is that I started beading when my youngest was just a baby back in 2004, and as we moved to another town I was able to sell my (very mediocre) jewellery in a shop and then branched out into markets. My style has changed a little over time and I have tried many new things – all the time knowing my limitations on what I can do. Sure, you can do anything, but my patience level is not where it should be for certain types of beading. And I’m happy with that.

If this sounds like you, and you might want to keep reading then I welcome you along.

My very first post here on this blog.
Interesting reading, and somewhat similar. I’m not sure how many of the links work at the moment. My apologies if they go nowhere.

Catch you for the next post. 🙂

A new year brings new possibilities!

It has been way too long since I have been here. Not for lack of being creative, but from lack of time and organising myself to take pictures and post here. My own slackness for sure.
But a new year is upon us. And I am taking up the challenge.
A new year means new possibilities!
My blogging resolutions for this blog are simple. Make it a routine to blog or at least post pictures twice a a week. Not hard. And considering I plan on being quite busy with creating, it should be fun.
One of the first changes I’ve made is to change the theme of the blog. I wasn’t overly happy with the last one, so I have fallen back to one of my favourite themes. Simple, but not too crowded, and showcasing all/most of the pictures on the side.

Another first for the new year will be to get baking onto a bit of sewing. A friend gave me these awesome crocheted flowers/shapes. We thought they were coasters initially, but no, they’re designed to sew onto bags. So the vintage bag book will come out and I shall see what funky things I can make.

Have a great new year and I look forward to posting lots of fantastic new makes, and lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Jen 🙂
